Mi Cuento. Works by Emilia Cruz. "Growing up I always found it difficult to express myself with words, so the best way to talk about my experiences or to share my stories was through my artwork. Creating has given me a voice and a chance to mark my existence. More importantly, I want to continue to make artwork that will uplift and empower other people of color, especially women of color who are not always being appreciated in the way that they should be. I want our presence to be acknowledged and respected. I am currently exploring the expansive realm of painting and illustration to see where it might take me."
